Last minute alterations to a commissioned piece can mean the difference between liking a piece of furniture and loving it. The client who ordered this table came to the workshop and actually had a hand in the finishing as she wanted to take part in the making process.

Creating furniture from reclaimed materials is sometimes a challenge. Time and preparation of the timber can be offputting if an item is to remain affordable.


However, perseverance and close attention to detail will always pay dividends in the end.

It is surprising, sometimes, what can be made from the off-cut and scrap pieces of wood in the workshop. 


There was, eventually, five different woods used in the making of this bedside table. Rustic and a little Heath Robinson in construction it is a well used and much loved and this is ultimately the reason to make furniture.

Chair making is one of the most challenging processes for the woodworker.


All the elements have to work in harmony, absolutely in accord with each other. The look, the lines, construction, choice of material and ergonomics require the utmost care in order for a chair to be immediately pleasing to the user.

Otherwise it just becomes another useless and undesirable object.
